We Have Lights!

When Mike returned from Virginia, he was on his own for a few weeks while I was still on the East Coast.  He was not sure if he wanted to go up to the Payson place without me, but decided that he could complete some work that did not require two people.

He spent the weekend putting up all the lights and ceiling fans throughout the house.  We decided to salvage as many original fixtures from the house as we could in order to save our budget for more important projects.  We also had a used ceiling fan we purchased in 2007 for the apartment we stayed at for a year and a couple of fixtures I bought at thrift stores and ReStore.  Before putting up the salvaged fixtures, Mike had to piece together all the jumbled parts that had been moved from closet to closet many times over the past few months.

He installed the ceiling fan from our apartment (much nicer than the salvaged fans) in the master bedroom and two lights in the master bath.  The one above the mirror was the salvaged light set (and is actually quite pretty) and the one nearer the door was a $4 thrift store find - score again!  The salvaged ceiling fans were put in the guest bedroom, den and great room and will be replaced once all the more critical projects are funded.  We have one more salvaged fan that will go in the dining area, but that cannot go in until the kitchen ceiling drywall is up.

Mike put back up the salvaged lights in the hall bathroom (ugly - will be a priority replacement), the end of the hall near the master bedroom and the front entry (these two are nice, but they are brass and all our new fixtures are nickle so I'm going to try to paint them) and the pantry (used the old kitchen fluorscent light) .  He also put up a Restore purchased light in the laundry room and a Home Depot purchased light outside the master bedroom back door (which is an exact match of the one we found at Restore that is outside the kitchen back door).  We had also found, at Lowes, a light adapter that would work with the new blown glass shade we bought in Arkansas on our vacation.  It has a rod which screws into a can light socket and a plate that covers the opening.  This, along with the shade, was installed in a corner of the great room and is a nice accent light.

On Saturday night I got a whole slew of picture texts to my phone from Mike showing off all the new lighting in the house.  He is so proud of himself (as he should be).

Mike then spent his final hours, before going home on Sunday, installing the water heater cover and ReStore purchased timer, and putting caulk around the trim we installed on the back patio prior to our trip.
